About 25 guild members and kin volunteered to plant trees Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 in Highland Park and in South Oakland, near Panther Hollow.
Members of The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh, along with volunteers from other organizations, helped plant hundreds of native trees and shrubs over the two weekends, beautifying public areas and helping to rebuild forested areas that had been overtaken by invasive species. (Guild leadership chose a tree-planting project, from among other options, partly because the newspaper industry consumes so many trees.)
The outings were organized by Pittsburgh Cares and the Western Pennsylvania conservancy.
