The Chicago Newspaper Guild, with the full support of Guild HQ, is launching an aggressive campaign to fight for the Sun-Times photojournalists who were fired en masse last week. Nearly 30 people were fired; about 20 of them are represented by the union. The campaign is not only fighting for their jobs, but for photojournalism itself, which the company thinks can be replaced by freelancers and reporters armed with iPhone cameras. The public response has been entirely on our side since the moment the S-T made its announcement, and we want to keep building on that.Over the weekend, we launched a Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/SaveSunTimesPhotojournalists
and a petition: http://action.cwa-union.org/c/1588/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=6572 You can also follow the Chicago Newspaper Guild on Twitter @CNGuild and use hashtag #SavethePhotogs for campaign-related tweets. We are trying as quickly as possible to grow the Facebook page and generate as many signatures possible on the petition. Please circulate this email to your members, your local labor fed, friends and family. Thank you! |
